"Message of Peace" (Double CD)

The price of this double CD including postage is $22. It was launched on Satrday 18th July 2009 by Donal O’Kelly at the Galway Arts Festival.

‘Message Of Peace’ tells the amazing story of a lesser-known Irish hero John Boyle O’Reilly. In this show Tyrrell effortlessly traces his journey from early childhood set against a backdrop of famine, revolution, Fenianism and penal servitude for life in Australia and his great escape to the USA.

A chance visit to a lace-curtained Irish shop in Manhattan led to the discovery of “1000 Years of Irish Poetry” and a lifelong love affair between Seán Tyrrell and this book. It would influence his life and music ever after. Three of O’Reilly’s poems from that book formed the backbone of his first recording. Tyrrell’s new production, “Message Of Peace” is the story of the discovery of the book and the resultant admiration and appreciation of John Boyle O’Reilly. It is O’Reilly’s story told by dialogue and song.

"Rising Tide" (Longwalk Music)

Sean Tyrrell's voice echoes the sounds of his native environment the rocks, the stones, the sea, and the wild natural habitat of County Clare. His is a raw, naked, emotional voice, passionate, up close, personal and intimate.

There is no feigned emotion or false modesty here, it is the real thing. Sean has a uniquely soulful voice that once encountered is never forgotten. His voice registers far beyond the normal consciousness, and reaches for deeper places of the heart and soul.

I can remember the first time I heard Sean Tyrrell sing. It was in 1990 and his voice related the tale Walker of the Snow, on Davy Spillane's Shadow Hunter album. It was like no other Irish voice I had heard before. His voice is distinctive, a style which cuts to the heart of a song and unveils the emotions present therein. A voice which moves people and one you don't forget in a hurry. This is something very special.

"Cry Of A Dreamer" (Longwalk Music)

In the middle of the fourteen unsurpassable and frighteningly good tracks on Cry Of A Dreamer there’s a trilogy of poems by John Boyle O’Reilly set to music by Sean Tyrrell. On the inner sleeve there is another short lyric of O’Reilly’s. In many ways it sums up the variety of moods on the fifty-five minutes of this disc which is at once romantic and dreamy, full of loss, longing and desire, yet also scathingly realistic.

A potent and innovative amalgamation of an assortment of indigenous musical styles, from Cajun to Folk to Blues to Irish traditional – to everything in between – Cry Of A Dreamer is held together by astoundedly accomplished musicianship that is rooted in the heartfelt traditions of honesty, integrity and a compassion and understanding which can only be discovered by experiencing life openly and at first hand as opposed to reflecting upon in it an ivory tower.

"The Orchard" (Longwalk Music)

There’s a serious Roy Harperish originality to this guy, even though he sings a lot of other people’s songs and trad anthems such as Wild Mountain Thyme, letting the songs trail off into disintegrating a cappella in space-tinged, ambient soundscapes: Excellently produced by himself and Davy Spillane, it’s got guitar texturist Greg Boland along side native music from Liam Lewis, Josephine Marsh and John Kelly. Superb is the feeling satire of Bad Luck To This Marchin, a 19th Century poem by Charles Lever ("Sure it’s better beat, Christians than kick a baboon") chiller still is The Ghost Of Billy Mulhihill, a song worthy of Nick Cave or Ruth Dillon’s One Eye Open. My eyes or ears certainly were.
